The Boy Scouts of America has put in place some of the strongest measures in the country to keep our youth safe.
In brief:
Every registered adult is required to undergo a background check and complete an extensive Youth Protection Training course every 2 years.
As part of each rank's requirements, scouts must earn the Protect Yourself Adventure.
Every registered adult is required by law to report any witnessed signs of abuse.
We have a "Two-Deep Leadership" policy, meaning that there are never any one-on-one interactions.
Please watch the following video for more detailed information.
Yearly Dues is currently $170/ year. This is broken down as such.
National Dues - $85/year
The Boy Scouts of America has an annual fee of $80. This fee covers things such as liability insurance and safety measures such as background checks.
Michigan Council Program Fee - $85/year
This program fee goes to our Michigan Council to support services such as
Local Scouting events
Scout Owned Campgrounds - Free tent camping on any scout site.
Adult Training
Pack Dues - $0!
Pack 85 is determined to keep costs as low as possible. We keep a tight budget and most pack costs are funded by our yearly fundraiser.
Badges and belt loops
Camp Activities
Pinewood Derby Supplies
Pack Meeting Refreshments
Pack 85 does not require a full uniform. We request that you purchase a shirt and the minimum insignia. This typically runs around $70 and can be used for multiple years. We can also try and connect with past scout families who are looking to sell or donate their child's old uniform.
With the online requirements tracking tool, Scoutbook, we no longer require scouts to purchase a hard copy of the handbook. If you do want the book, it costs $17.
We try to cover most of the outing fees. Depending on the event we may ask the family to pay or help pay out of pocket. One example is food costs for weekend campouts.
