If we are in a cabin, there will be twin bunk beds with (very thin) mattresses. We recommend to either bring a twin sheet set and blankets or a sleeping bag to place on top.
If we are tent camping, its highly recommended that you have some sort of sleeping pad to place under your sleeping bag. This is especially important in cooler seasons. The pad is crucial in insulating your body from the Earth which will otherwise quickly draw all heat from you overnight.
These campouts are only possible due to the work that each scout puts in to fundraise for the pack. It would not be fair to those scouts who worked their shifts. There are, however exceptions.
If you are a first year family. We don't require you to work any shifts in order to camp. We just ask that you sell the following year.
If you made an effort but could not schedule enough shifts, the Cubmaster may be able to work an arrangement where the scout agrees to door-to-door wagon sales in their neighborhood. This is not guaranteed, but the sooner you inform the leadership of conflicts the better.
The Haunted Forest consists of an all-age friendly, non-scary area where kids can play games and watch a magic show. Then, for those who would like to be spooked, there is a 1/2 mile trail filled with scary scenes, props, and volunteer actors. Its all fairly PG, but some of the younger scouts do get scared. About halfway through the trail is an exit for those who don't wish to continue. The hayride shuttle will pick you up and return you to the game area.
Yes, but please let us know as soon as possible. Please note that the $25 food fee is not prorated for families that do not stay the whole weekend.
At camp, everyone does their part to make the trip run smoothly and to make sure no single person is stuck with all the work that it takes to make the fun happen. While we don't typically assign tasks in advance, these are the types of things you can do to help out.
Clean up after yourself and make sure your scout does as well.
Setting up our kitchen, unloading and loading the trailer.
Carrying firewood. Supervising the campfire.
Assist in cooking. Especially if your scout is working on a cooking requirement.
Cleaning kitchen after each meal. Washing pots, pans and utensils.
Sweeping and mopping the cabin.
Policing the grounds for any trash.
Cleaning the cabin bathroom.
When we rent a cabin, there is a checkout procedure and the camp ranger will come and inspect the area before permitting us to leave on Sunday. For those who don't plan to stay Saturday night or leave early Sunday, we ask that you help us get the site ready for inspection before you go.
Scouts are free to roam the near vicinity of our site. They should go no further than they can hear someone call them back. The buddy system is enforced. No scouts should ever be out of sight without a buddy. Anywhere further should be under adult supervision.
We also employ two-deep leadership. This means that anytime a scout is with an adult that is not their parent, there must be a second adult in company. Parents do not need another adult to be present with their child. For example, you are welcome to take your child to the lake to go fishing, but if you decided to take a friend along, another parent must come with you.
